[If only because she doesn't want Locke to throw off Sherlock's groove and get thrown out a window butt heads with Sherlock or interrupt the investigation. She probably isn't as worried about this as she should be]

[It takes him a little longer to answer this time. Not even a pretense of levity today. Maya's not worried enough. Locke's worried enough or the both of them. And it's been a hell of a week.]

I promised I'd look out for you.

[And he'd meant it. Can't protect you from all the way over here, Maya. He's not going to tell her to stop whatever it is she's doing. He'd just like know someone will watch out for her while she's doing it, and the best way he knows how is to do it himself. Problem is he doesn't actually know Sherlock yet, so it's hard to trust the guy with her safety.]
